Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Bach #117 Warburton Screw System Trumpet Backbore
The Bach–Warburton #117 Backbore is one of the more open, low‑resistance backbores used in the Bach line, and it is commonly found as the standard backbore on “E” cup models like the Bach 7E and similar piccolo‑oriented mouthpieces.
This backbore’s larger taper and throat design favor easy airflow and freedom, especially in the upper register. Players often describe it as a backbore that helps enhance projection and brightness, while still offering enough core and definition for orchestral or solo contexts. Because it is more open than backbores like #7 or #10, the #117 can make the horn feel more free‑blowing and responsive — particularly helpful on smaller cups or when playing piccolo trumpet.
Warburton Screw System 3/8" 40 TPI Compatibility
We will modify any mouthpiece in our inventory to allow you to mix and match trumpet mouthpiece tops and backbores from your favorite brands. You can pair a Bach backbore with Pickett Brass, Yamaha, Schilke, or Warburton tops.
Important Note: Your mouthpiece top and backbore should have a matching throat size.
