Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Bach 10½EW Trumpet Mouthpiece
Featuring a 15.90 mm cup diameter with a shallow cup and an extra-wide rim that is higher toward the inner edge, the Bach 10½EW offers a highly supportive cushion feel. Sharing the same cup shape and diameter as the 10½E, it produces a bright, scintillating tone with excellent clarity in the extreme high register. The extra-wide rim provides added support for players with soft, fleshy lips who play extensively in the upper register. Sometimes used for piccolo trumpet, it delivers quick response and strong articulation. The #117 backbore enhances projection and efficiency, contributing to a focused, brilliant sound.
