Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
The Bach 18 trumpet mouthpiece is designed for players who want a broad, full-bodied sound with excellent control in the middle and lower registers. Its design favors stability and richness over extreme brilliance, making it a strong choice for orchestral, symphonic band, and chamber players seeking warmth and depth.
Rim: Medium-wide, providing comfort and secure embouchure placement Cup: Medium-deep to deep, allowing for a darker, more resonant tone Cup Diameter: Larger than standard models (e.g., larger than a 7C), supporting a fuller sound Throat: Slightly more open, increasing airflow and producing greater resonance Backbore: Medium-open, balancing projection with tonal warmth Tone Characteristics: The Bach 18 delivers a warm, rounded, and powerful tone, emphasizing core and breadth rather than edge. It offers excellent blendability, smooth articulation, and strong dynamic control, making it ideal for orchestral and symphonic work, or any playing situation where a rich, stable, and resonant sound is preferred.
