Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Bach 7EW Trumpet Mouthpiece
Featuring a 16.20 mm cup diameter with a shallow cup and a slightly wider rim than the 7E, the Bach 7EW offers a comfortable cushion rim contour. Sharing the same tonal characteristics as the 7E, its shallow cup produces a crisp, sparkling tone with excellent clarity in the extreme high register. Designed especially for players accustomed to using more pressure, it provides added comfort and support, particularly in demanding upper register playing. The #117 backbore enhances responsiveness and projection, contributing to a bright, focused sound.
