Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 40S Trumpet Mouthpiece
Featuring a 16.26 mm rim inner diameter, a 3.66 mm (#27) throat, an 8.38 mm backbore, and a shallow cup depth, the Laskey 40S Trumpet Mouthpiece offers a focused and responsive feel with added warmth compared to shallower E-style models.
Its shallow cup produces a clear, centered tone with a balanced blend of brightness and body. This makes it well-suited for commercial, jazz, and ensemble playing where clarity, flexibility, and moderate upper-register support are important without sacrificing tonal depth.
The 16.26 mm rim provides a secure and agile feel on the embouchure, supporting clean articulation and endurance during extended playing. The 3.66 mm (#27) throat combined with the 8.38 mm backbore promotes efficient airflow and consistent response, allowing for smooth transitions across registers and reliable intonation.
