Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 65MD Trumpet Mouthpiece
Featuring a 16.89 mm rim inner diameter, a standard #27 (3.66 mm) throat, and an 8.38 mm backbore, the Laskey 65MD Trumpet Mouthpiece offers a medium‑deep cup design that bridges the tonal gap between traditional medium and deep mouthpieces, producing a rich, broad sound well‑suited to expressive ensemble and solo playing.
The medium‑deep (MD) cup promotes a full, warm tonal core with enhanced harmonic complexity and depth, giving players a sound that blends naturally in larger sections while still providing definition and responsiveness. This tonal profile makes the 65MD a strong choice for concert band, orchestral, chamber, and studio settings where a broad, dark sound is desired.
The 16.89 mm rim offers a comfortable, supportive feel on the embouchure that encourages endurance and control, while the medium‑deep cup volume supports stable airflow and smooth response across the range. The standard throat and backbore promote efficient airflow and balanced resistance, enhancing the mouthpiece’s versatility from low register warmth to focused mid‑ and upper‑range control.
