Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 65S Trumpet Mouthpiece
The Laskey 65S Trumpet Mouthpiece pairs the Classic Series’ medium‑shallow S cup design with a 16.89 mm rim inner diameter and the standard #27 (3.66 mm) throat/backbore combination, creating a mouthpiece that balances brightness, ease of response, and tonal clarity. The S cup profile sits between very shallow and medium depths, emphasizing brilliance and support for upper‑register playing while still offering a solid core of sound.
This cup design enhances brightness and focused tone without feeling thin, making the 65S a strong choice for lead, commercial, and crossover playing where clear articulation and easy slotting are important. The 16.89 mm rim provides comfortable embouchure engagement and enough surface area to support stability and endurance during extended playing.
Paired with the standard throat and backbore found across the Classic Series, the 65S promotes smooth, efficient airflow with responsive attacks and a balanced feel across the range, supporting versatility from everyday ensemble work to more demanding performance contexts.
