Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 68C Trumpet Mouthpiece
The Laskey 68C Trumpet Mouthpiece features a 16.97 mm rim inner diameter, a standard #27 (3.66 mm) throat, and an 8.38 mm backbore with a classic C medium‑depth cup, offering a balanced tone and versatile playing character. The C cup design produces a strong core with solid projection and dynamic flexibility, fitting well in a broad range of musical settings from ensemble support to solo work.
The medium cup depth helps deliver a full‑bodied yet focused sound that responds well to both lyrical passages and more commanding dynamics without feeling overly dark or overly bright. This makes the 68C particularly suitable for players seeking an all‑around mouthpiece that can adapt to commercial, orchestral, and band playing with confidence.
The 16.97 mm rim provides a comfortable, stable feel on the embouchure that supports endurance and control, while the classic throat and backbore dimensions facilitate efficient airflow and reliable response across the range. Together, these features create a balanced playing experience with easy slotting, articulate attacks, and a well‑rounded tonal palette from low register warmth to clear upper range clarity.
