Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 68MC Trumpet Mouthpiece
The Laskey 68MC Trumpet Mouthpiece features a 16.97 mm rim inner diameter, a standard #27 (3.66 mm) throat, and an 8.38 mm backbore with the Classic Series MC (medium‑shallow, double cup) design. This design combines a moderately shallow first chamber near the rim for immediate response with a second chamber closer to the throat that adds warmth and tonal complexity.
The MC cup profile provides a versatile playing experience, offering brightness and flexibility for ensemble work while supporting a fuller, richer sound for solos and expressive passages. It is well-suited for jazz, commercial, and orchestral settings where clarity, projection, and tonal balance are important.
The 16.97 mm rim offers a stable, comfortable feel on the embouchure, encouraging endurance and control. Paired with the standard throat and backbore, the 68MC supports efficient airflow, smooth articulation, and consistent performance across all registers.
