Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 68S Trumpet Mouthpiece
The Laskey 68S Trumpet Mouthpiece features a 16.97 mm rim inner diameter, a standard #27 (3.66 mm) throat, and an 8.38 mm backbore with a shallow S cup design. This cup provides a bright, focused tone with excellent clarity and responsiveness, ideal for lead and commercial playing.
The shallow cup enhances upper-register access and quick articulation while maintaining a solid tonal core. It is well-suited for jazz, pop, and ensemble work where projection, flexibility, and clarity are priorities.
The 16.97 mm rim offers a comfortable, stable feel on the embouchure, supporting endurance and control during extended playing. Paired with the standard throat and backbore, the 68S promotes efficient airflow, crisp attacks, and a consistent feel across all registers.
