Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 70S Trumpet Mouthpiece
The Laskey 70S Trumpet Mouthpiece features a 17.14 mm rim inner diameter, a standard #27 (3.66 mm) throat, and an 8.38 mm backbore with a shallow S cup design. This configuration emphasizes responsiveness and clarity, making it ideal for players who prioritize articulation and upper-register performance.
The shallow cup produces a bright, focused tone with strong projection and quick response. It supports ease in the upper register while maintaining a centered sound, making the 70S well-suited for lead, commercial, and jazz playing where precision and brilliance are essential.
The 17.14 mm rim offers a stable and comfortable feel on the embouchure, promoting endurance and control. Paired with the standard throat and backbore, the 70S provides efficient airflow, crisp articulation, and consistent performance throughout the range.
