Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 80D Trumpet Mouthpiece
The Laskey 80D Trumpet Mouthpiece features a 17.27 mm rim inner diameter, a standard #27 (3.66 mm) throat, and an 8.38 mm backbore with a deep D cup design. This configuration offers a slightly more focused alternative to the B cup while still delivering a rich, full tone with depth and warmth.
The D cup produces a dark, centered sound with strong core definition and controlled projection. It provides a balance between depth and clarity, making it well-suited for orchestral, concert band, and ensemble playing where a warm tone with added focus is desired.
The 17.27 mm rim offers a wide, stable feel on the embouchure, supporting endurance and consistent control. Paired with the standard throat and backbore, the 80D promotes smooth airflow, responsive articulation, and balanced performance across all registers.
