Cut for Sleeves
Bob Reeves developed his sleeve system in 1973 as a method for adjusting the annulus ("gap") between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the lead pipe. This allows the player to "fine tune" the playing back pressure of his/her set-up. It also allows the player to use one mouthpiece on different instruments that require a different gap.
The correct gap can only be determined through experimentation as it varies from player to player, mouthpiece to mouthpiece, and instrument to instrument. Virtually any trumpet mouthpiece can be converted to use Bob Reeves sleeves. They are available in sizes #0.5 through #7 in half sizes. A #0.5 sleeve will give you the greatest gap. A #7 is the smallest.
If you have your mouthpiece cut for sleeves, be sure to also purchase the sleeves that you need. Trumpet Sleeves.

Description
Laskey 5 Protegé Trumpet Mouthpiece
The Laskey 5 Protegé Trumpet Mouthpiece is part of the Protégé Series created for beginning and developing players. Made from free‑machining brass with a polished rim and satin‑finished body, then plated with copper, silver, and bright silver, it delivers durability and a comfortable feel that supports early technique development.
The size 5 model offers a slightly smaller rim diameter than the 3, giving players a balanced combination of control and flexibility that makes it easier to produce a clear, focused tone across registers. The design promotes efficient airflow and supports dependable articulation, helping students build strength and consistency in their playing.
With its accessible response and even feel, the 5 Protegé encourages confident attacks, smooth scale transitions, and stable intonation, making it well‑suited for school band, private lessons, and early ensemble performance as students grow their skills.
